Our Mission

Our mission is to build and maintain a velodrome in the WV Eastern Panhandle that will be accessible to the entire national capitol cycling community for the purposes of competitive, educational and recreational use. We will create a venue that is open to cyclists of all abilities and will facilitate the development of prospective youth participants.

About

A velodrome is an arena for track cycling. Modern velodromes feature steeply banked oval tracks, consisting of two 180-degree circular bends connected by two straights. The straights transition to the circular turn through a moderate easement curve. Track cycling is a great sport for our youth. The sport helps develop self-confidence, persevervance, responsibility, and fitness.

Unlike road riding, track riding/racing provides a safe environment free of cars, pedestrians, stray dogs and other hazards typically associated with riding a bicycle.

You can read more about velodromes and Track cycling at wikipedia.org.

Our Goal

Our goal is to expand the opportunities to the Eastern Panhandle area youth and adults with an exciting and versatile form of the sport of cycling by working together with the community. By making this a joint venture, everybody involved can take pride and ownership in knowing that they played a significant role in adding to the foundation of sports in the Eastern panhandle and Nation's Capital region.

Fiscally our goal is to acquire $150,000 in pledges from local business, community organizations, and surrounding cycling enthusiasts for funding to begin the process of securing land, track design, and scheduling.

Pledges

We are currently seeking support for this project from the cycling community in the form of pledges for a minimum amount of $100. Pledges will only be called in when we have over $150k in pledges, we have non-profit status, and a site commitment from the local government in the Eastern Panhandle. If you are an individual or group that shares our dream and wants to make it a reality, please visit our pledge page.
